Lessons From our Fathers

by

Drinking Angel's EnvyWith Father’s Day fast approaching, I’m excited to be partnering with Angel’s Envy Bourbon to share one of the best lessons I learned from my father. I’ve learned a LOT from my dad over the years, so I’ve distilled it down to one that has brought me the most happiness and success.

Do Your Own Thing

I grew up watching my dad run his clothing business. It was an integral part of all of our lives. I remember him coming home with big thick stacks of paper full of all the sales reports from his stores, spending weekends creating box forts in the warehouse where all of the clothes were stored, and watching him fly off to New York to buy the new latest styles. He was home a lot, but the business was a major part of our lives. He worked hard, and because of his hard work he was very successful.

Pouring Angel's EnvyHad he worked for someone else, there just isn’t a way he could have had all the freedom we did, nor the income. We grew up on a beautiful lake, that to this day, I’m still trying to find it’s equal. We took lots of trips, even if that meant taking us out of school to do so.

He showed me just how good life could be.

After seeing that life, I’ve never been able to be content working for someone else, and I credit that with what gave me the drive to create my own businesses. Without that inspiration, I don’t know where I’d be now.

Employers will only give you the minimum freedom and salary that it takes for you not to quit. To rise above that, you have to do your own thing.

Taking a Sip of Angel's Envy

The lessons I’ve learned and continue to learn from my father have shaped how I am today, and I’m forever grateful.  He’s the first one I call when I’m faced with an especially difficult problem or need to brainstorm new creative ideas.

In the same way, Angel’s Envy came about with a passion project between a father, Lincoln, and son, Wes Henderson.  Lincoln had collected a black book of innovative ideas, and when Wes convinced Lincoln to come out of retirement to to pursue a project together, he knew creating a port finished bourbon was the one they should pursue together.

This Father’s Day, Angel’s Envy will be sharing some of the lessons from the Henderson family, as well as Father’s Day inspired cocktails on their Instagram and Facebook pages. Or, if you are looking to celebrate Father’s Day this year with a refined bourbon worth sharing, you can find out where to buy a bottle of their Port Finished Bourbon or Rum Finished Rye near you at AngelsEnvy.com.
