2017 Lexus RC F Review – Is It a Good Daily Driver?

Back in March I had the opportunity to push Lexus’ RC F to it’s limits on the COTA F1 track in Austin, Texas, but for many people who buy it, they’re going to spend a lot more of their time with it on public streets.  When it comes to racing, most people are more than happy to go without comfortable seats, air conditioning and a host of other features in the goal of saving weight, but when the car is also being used as a daily driver those features become very important again.

One of the reasons I really enjoy the RC F is that although it’s a thrill to take out on the track, it’s also a fantastic daily driver. 

I live in Austin, Texas, and although my job doesn’t require me to drive in rush hour traffic, I still see my fair share of congestion.  This is where the adaptive radar cruise control really shines.  You set the max speed for the car and the distance it keeps from the car in front of you, and it does the rest. It will speed up and even slow down to a stop if necessary.  The only downside I’ve seen is that even when you set the cruise control to follow as close as possible to the car in front of you, it still leaves enough of a gap that some overzealous drivers will jump in and cut you off.  Even so, not having to constantly work the gas and break is a god send.

Another area that the RC F excels at is the comfort of their seats.  It’s not something a lot of car reviewers talk about, but when you think of it, there are few things that will have as much of an impact on the actual comfort of the car as the seats. To begin, the RC F’s seats hug your body like a proper racing seat should, but what I found surprising was that even after 3 hours of driving, I didn’t have any of the customary aches and pains you’d normally have after sitting that long in most car seats.  On top of that, the seats come heated AND cooled, which in the Texas heat is amazing. 

There are a lot of additional features I love about the RC F that make it a great daily driver, and I’ve been enjoying it so much, I decided to created a video about it.  I got a little carried away with the video…we brought along a couple drones, a chase car, and far too many cameras, but the video is entertaining, so it’s worth a look.  I’m especially fond of the intro and outro 🙂
