“Routine in an intelligent man, is a sign of ambition” – W H Auden
Setting good routines. It’s a simple concept that over time can have dramatic results.
Good routines do 3 important things:
1. Saves brain power for more important tasks
Brain power is diminishes throughout the day. Did you ever notice how it is much easier to eat a healthier breakfast, but you end up eating junk food at night? Routines help you conserve more brain power by taking the thinking out of action.
2. Saves time
Repeating a task is a lot easier than creating a new one. Just make sure you’ve chosen the right task to do.
3. Gives you a baseline to improve upon
Once you’ve done a task many times, you will find ways to do it quicker and better. If you’re choosing the right routines, this can lead to dramatic increases in productivity and/or results.
The trick is to create routines that you will stick to. Don’t set yourself up for failure by creating ones that are too demanding or difficult. This can benefit you in your business life, such as scheduling your weekly tasks at the same time and day each week, or even in your personal life, like eating the same healthy breakfast each morning.
What are some areas of you’re life that you could improve with a routine? There’s no time like the present, so write them down and start today.
