Do you have a new business you’re trying to create or a new opportunity at work you’re not sure you can handle? The reason for your lack of confidence may be because you’re too smart. Really!
You would think that the people who are the most capable of doing something would be the most confident in their ability to do it, but due to one of the universes most twisted irony’s, you’d be wrong.
It’s called the Dunning-Kruger effect, and it states that those who are less intelligent, are actually very confident in their ability to do things, because they don’t know well enough to know they aren’t capable. On the flip side, very intelligent individuals are likely to underestimate their abilities and write-off the the things they are able to do easily as things that are easy for everyone.
As David Dunning states, “The miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others.”
So next time you’re feeling unconfident in you abilities, know it may just be that you’re too smart….and go for it.

This is so interesting. However, I would categorize myself as confident but now I’m not sure that’s a good thing!
