2017 was a great year for my wife and I, but it involved a lot of work. That’s why we wanted to cap it off with a trip we could enjoy with family and friends. We love hotels when we’re traveling by ourselves, but when we want to travel with a group, it’s hard to beat renting a home with Home Away.
As I was growing up, a lot of our family vacations involved renting homes before companies like Home Away even existed. We didn’t live in the same town as much of our family, so it was always a great way to spend quality time with aunts, cousins, grandfather’s, etc.
That’s one of the reasons I really like renting homes when I’m traveling with a group. Besides usually being cheaper than hotels after you split the cost, when I’m traveling with other people, I want to spend time with them, and when you each are in a different hotel room, you end up spending a lot of the time apart. Using this trip as an example, some of my favorite times were early in the morning making breakfast with everyone, or talking late into the night, something that never seems to happen at a hotel.
So, on to the trip. We decided to visit Breckenridge, Colorado because of the beautiful mountains, snow, and having one of our good friends as well as my grandfather who lived close by. We initially were going to hit the ski slopes, but with our 3 month old daughter Emma not reliably taking the bottle, Lee wouldn’t have been able to come with me, so we decided to stick around the house and go sledding with Noah instead. We had a nice long private driveway and plenty of land around the house to make our own sledding trails and seeing Noah literally bursting with screams of joy as he slid down the hill on his first sled ride made me realize this has to become a regular thing.
The house turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. It had 4 bedrooms, and a big kitchen/dining/living room that was perfect for getting everyone together. One of the benefits of renting a home that we took huge advantage of on this trip was being able to cook, which is awesome when you have kids. We ended up almost overfilling the fridge with all of the food everyone brought and made while we were there.
We loved our time there. The house, the company, the entire experience was awesome. Now we just need to plan the next trip back 🙂
