Life is full of lessons, some easy, some hard. Many have to be experienced before they can be learned. Even so, I’ve put together 26 life lessons that I hope will help my son as he grows up.
- Don’t worry about money in your 20’s. Get experience instead, so you can make real money in your 30’s.
- Always be yourself when trying to date someone. If you try to be someone else or show off, you’ll have to do that the rest of your life. Be you and find the person who loves you for who you are.
- Life isn’t about finding what you love, but learning what things you don’t enjoy. You continue trying new things, new jobs, etc. until you finally find what you actually enjoy. There are no shortcuts. You have to get out there and experience as much as you can to find what you truly love.
- If you’re depressed, you have to do the things you don’t feel like doing to get yourself out of it. Hang out with people and start working out. Forcing yourself to do those things will make you feel better quicker.
- Eat healthy, but not too healthy. You don’t need to count your calories, but instead figure out what foods you like that are good for you, but you don’t mind eating often.
- Challenge everything. If you look around and you’re doing what everyone else is doing that should scare you.
- Only drink when you’re happy
- Build the type of strength that allows you to do bold new things, not the strength to deal with things you hate to do.
- You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Choose them wisely.
- People who are thought to be more intelligent are usually people who work on problems long after others would have given up.
- If you want to look in shape, but not try too hard, eat very little potatoes, pasta, milk, and rice.
- Sometimes the people who appear to be stuck up are just shy.
- Don’t do drugs just because people say they are bad. Don’t do them because they make you happy doing nothing.
- Wear sunscreen. You’ll be glad you did.
- If there is an argument with you and your girlfriend or spouse, deal with it head on. Relationships can deal with many small fights. It’s the problems that build up over time that can kill them.
- Take risks with business when you’re young. You have a lot of time to make up for any mistakes.
- Having a period in life where you are truly poor isn’t a bad thing. It’s the only way to know that if you’re poor again later in life you’ll be able to deal with it.
- Don’t spend money to impress people. The people who matter don’t care, and the people who care don’t matter.
- If you’re ever deeply depressed, know IT WILL GET BETTER.
- Life is a series of ups and downs. Without the downs, you wouldn’t appreciate the highs as much.
- No amount of salary can make up for truly not enjoying what you do for a living.
- Don’t take the jobs when you are young just for the money. You can easily end up gaining a lot of experience in a job you don’t like, and become accustomed to that type of income. This is a perfect trap that can make it hard to later switch to the career you truly enjoy.
- One of the best skills to learn is to truly not care about people who do not matter in your life think.
- Be polite. Please, thank you, and you’re welcome, should come out of your mouth frequently.
- Be careful with your words. You can tell someone they are cute 100 times, and they won’t believe you. If you tell them they are ugly or fat once, they will never forget it.

I found your blog through Lee Anne and I have to say, I LOVE this post. So real. This piece of advice spoke to me, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Choose them wisely.”
