We spent all of last week at the Hotel Zamora in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. Did we have a great time? Our original trip was meant to be 4 nights, but we were having so much fun we decided to stay for another 3. It was a vacation neither we nor our son Noah wanted to end.
The Hotel Zamora is a Kimpton Hotel. If you read my last post about Hotel Van Zandt, you’ll know that they create some great boutique hotels. Each always feels unique with great finishes, fantastic restaurants, and an even better staff. We’ve always had a great time at all the Kimpton hotels we’ve visited, so we knew we’d enjoy this one as well.
The Hotel Zamora is nestled on one of the Top US Ranked Beaches and is about 30 minutes SW of Tampa, Florida. It’s directly on the Intercoastal Waterway with slips for boats and yachts and directly across the street from the beach. Because it’s a boutique hotel, you don’t get the mass produced feel that some other large beach hotels give off – everything feels like it was designed for this specific hotel.
This was our son Noah’s first time at the beach, so we spent the first couple days pretty much glued to it. The sand was so soft it squeaked when you walked on it, which made it a great first beach for him.
Noah was obsessed with the sand, so we spent a lot of our time building sand castles and digging holes. What started out as a simple hole ended up turning into what we lovingly referred to as our “Beach Living Room.”
It’s hard to get a feel for the size of it from the pictures, but our little seating pit could seat at least 8 and served as our home base on the beach. Even more surprisingly, it lasted the entire trip without anyone destroying it, which says a lot about how nice the people were at the beach.
At noon each day the hotel opened up it’s rooftop with 360 views, where you can order drinks and tapas and hang out in the sun. If it had been only Lee and I on the trip, I think we would have spent a lot more time enjoying it.
The in-hotel restaurant Castile, and it’s chef were amazing. Sometimes in beach front areas you end up paying high prices for sub-par food, but that was very much not the case here. Everything was delicious and unique in it’s own way.
The area around the hotel is very walkable. Within less than a mile there are grocery stores, restaurants and pharmacy’s to pick up anything you need. We made the mistake of packing a bunch of beach buckets, shovels, etc. for Noah to play with, only to find everything we needed when we arrived.
All in all it was a great trip. We’re thinking about making it one of our reoccurring trips 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
