3 Favorite Photo Editing Apps on iPhone

For those you of you who don’t want to drop a bunch of money on cameras, lenses and editing software, you can still take great photos with your phone. The majority of photos Lee and I take are with our Canon 80D and the lenses here, but when we’re out and about, or without our computer, we regularly take photos with our phones as well like this photo below.

Taking the photo is only half the battle, and with the editing software available now, you can turn not so great photos into amazing ones. Of course, the apps I’m going to discuss aren’t as feature rich as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, but if you’re on a budget or make some quick edits, they still work great.

VSCO – Free

VSCO is useful for editing the exposure, color, sharpness, etc. of the ENTIRE photo (I’ll explain why I wrote that in caps later).  They have some filters that I used when I was first getting used to editing photos, but I now use it mostly for:

• Increasing the Brightness
• Cropping to a Square or 4×5 ratio
• Increasing Sharpness
• Adjusting the Color Temp (making the photo more blue or yellow)

Even though there are apps that have more features, I still use this one regulary because it can handle most of the edits you need for most photos, and with the simple layout, you can edit photos quicker than the others mentioned below.  For a free app, you should definitely pick this one up.

Facetune 2 – Paid

Facetune 2 has a lot of features.  You can do most of what you can do with VSCO discussed above, and a lot more. One of the main reasons I use this app is because you can edit specific areas of the photo and don’t have to edit the entire thing. This is especially useful when you’d like to brighten up a shadowy area of a photo without brightening the rest, reducing the saturation of something especially distracting in the background, or sharpening just the area of the photo you want to draw attention to.

There are almost too many features to mention,  This is another app I highly recommend, but due to the price, it’s likely best for people who take photos often or have an Instagram following.

Adobe Photoshop Fix – Free

The iPhone app version of Photoshop has less featured than it’s computer based sibling, but still has many of them you’ll appreciate when it comes to quick edits.  Plus it’s free!  My main use for this app is to remove items from the photo that I don’t want to be there.
